About the Opportunity
This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. FEU

The individual in this position has responsibility for supporting the compliance and procedure processes within Transmission Operations to align FirstEnergy Transmission Operations procedures and supporting documentation with North America Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards, ReliabilityFirst Corporation (RF) standards, PJM Manuals, and PJM Transmission Owner Matrix of Assigned/Shared Tasks.
Responsibilities include:

  • Developing, maintaining, and reviewing operating procedures for Transmission Operations control centers, and other FEU organizations
  • Technical writing to support development of procedures and other departmental documents
  • Developing Basis of Compliance narratives demonstrating regulatory compliance.
  • Preparing for and support regulatory audits, self-certification, data-submittals and spot checks.
  • Reviewing and analyzing daily Transmission Operations logs for regulatory related actions/events.
  • Providing feedback on best practices and lessons learned.
  • Preparing reports, assembling documentation and other materials to demonstrate compliance; assisting in self-certifications, spot checks, and audit preparation. This includes documentation management of all standards, policies, procedures, and evidence to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Utilizing FE compliance technology such as FileNet and CATSWeb to assign, track and monitor FE Transmission compliance efforts.
  • Verifying FE Transmission compliance with NERC, ReliabilityFirst (RF) and PJM policies and standards.
  • Becoming and remaining knowledgeable of PJM Manuals and their relationship with FirstEnergy procedures.
  • Becoming and remaining knowledgeable of the PJM Transmission Owner/Transmission Operator Matrix of Assigned/Shared Tasks and its relationship to FirstEnergy procedures and applicability to compliance standards.
  • Assisting in working with other FirstEnergy business units to build working relationships that maintain strong coordination and communications to ensure a complete and thorough demonstration of FirstEnergy s compliance with regulatory standards is achieved.
  • Maintaining awareness of emerging industry transmission issues through benchmarking and participation in appropriate utility forums/groups.
  • Providing assistance during emergencies and storm related activities.
  • Utilizing knowledge of Human Factored Technical Writing best practices to author and revise Operating Procedures, Reference documents, Desk Guides and associated documentation
  • Collaborating with and interviewing diverse audiences of knowledgeable personnel from within the field of the assignment (Transmission Division) to attain necessary information for documents being written
  • Interpreting technical input from Subject Matter Experts and audience to develop human factored instructions in documents being written
  • Performing assessments of the impact that proposed changes to a document in revision will have on the remainder of the document as well as any other associated documents that the document in revision is referenced in
  • Collaborating with Subject Matter Experts to determine the right level of detail to write to support the least experienced qualified individual likely to be involved with relying upon the Operating Procedures, Reference documents, Desk Guides and associated documentation
  • Demonstrating professional demeanor in working with customers/stakeholders to answer questions and concerns about any documents produced before, during, and after meetings and events as a means of providing superior customer service

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, English, Communications or related discipline, along with 2
    years of related work experience required. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 4 years of direct, related experience will be considered. Related work experience in IT, engineering, operations, planning or compliance functions associated with bulk electric system (transmission or generation) required.
  • The experience must include a basic understanding of the subject matter.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret documents such as procedures, prints, technical manuals, company policies and other materials
  • Proven teamwork and interpersonal skills to aid in the resolution of compliance issues.
  • Demonstrated ability in using Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in accomplishing responsibilities in a timely manner through maximizing organizational resources and employing logical approaches.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, with multiple departments in multiple locations.
  • Ability to write clearly, accurately and concisely to effectively convey ideas in procedures, technical documents, educational material, reports, letters and memos.
