Medical Support Assistant (Advanced)

The incumbent will have significant interface with Veterans in the homeless or at-risk-of homelessness population, Veterans' families, VA Social Workers, Nurses, and Rehab Techs, and community partners. The incumbent is responsible for responding to questions with a range of issues and evaluating the need for additional information. Therefore, the incumbent will have thorough knowledge of ICARE standards and consistently display a demeanor and behavior consistent with ICARE values - Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect and Excellence. In interactions with patients, co-workers, supervisors, and visitors, the incumbent will display a caring, helpful attitude, and a willingness to be of assistance in resolving issues of concern. Providing specialized and expert administrative patient support while working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. Coordinating with the patient care team to review clinic appointment availability to ensure that clinic schedules are closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the clinics. Developing and maintaining effective and efficient communication with the patient, interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model teams, VA medical centers, and other agencies. Processing incoming patient secure messaging through MyHealthyVet and coordinating with care team as appropriate. Participating in team huddles and team meetings to manage, plan, problem solve, and follow-up with patient care by sharing information and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team. Setting priorities and deadlines, adjusting the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs. Identifying incomplete encounters and communicating findings to providers. Assisting the team to reinforce the plan of care and self-help solutions. Entering appropriate information into the electronic record. Monitoring pre-appointment information and/or requirements to assure readiness for patient visit/procedure. Evaluating patient information and clinic schedule lists to determine whether the patient requires an immediate appointment; informing team members about shared patients (i.e.) those who receive their care at multiple VA centers or those who receive care in the community. Providing courteous, tactful, effective and efficient communication, both orally and in writing, with patients, interdisciplinary team, VA Medical Center staff, and community partners and agencies. Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to:
answering phones, greeting patients, relaying messages to appropriate staff, scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient appointments and/or consults, entering no-show information, monitoring appointment requests from multiple electronic sources, participating in huddles with other clinic staff to determine the daily needs of the clinic, monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments, verifying and updating demographics and insurance information, coordinating administrative functions relating to emergency and non-emergency transfers. The work of this position is primarily sedentary working closely with others or alone. There may be some walking, standing, bending, kneeling, carrying of light items under 15 pounds, reaching above shoulder, driving an automobile, etc. The work environment typically involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of an office, meeting or training room. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
