Rehabilitation Technician

Using VA and community resource contacts to ensure that Veterans have access to services for homelessness and prevention for homelessness and when necessary to expedite housing services. Using VA and community resources to provide other services as it applies to Veterans in need of medical care, shelter and basic daily living needs. Scheduling appointments, transporting Veterans and assisting them in obtaining and maintaining VA services. Completing data collection and workload expectations per VA directives. Completing intake forms in HOMES and CPRS systems and completing assessments to ensure Veterans are properly assessed. Applying sound clinical judgment in determining appropriate intervention where indicated (crisis intervention counseling, problem solving counseling and consultation with senior staff). Coordinating and working with senior staff to provide immediate and appropriate care for Veterans. Preparing to offer educational programs for Veterans on the topics relevant to homeless populations such as substance abuse, HIV prevention, and sober living skills. Performing follow up services in the community and VA Medical Center with connecting people with resources and assisting them with navigating the community and VA system for care. Working with Veterans to carry out the defined treatment plan under the guidance of a clinician, soliciting input from Veterans and modifying as needed. Working collaboratively with the CRRC team and community agency staff in addressing complex needs of the Veteran population. Work Schedule:

Time-In-Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. Basic Requirement:
Must have experience that involved the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and activities in working with individuals or groups. Experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology or mental health that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles, methods, and techniques of psychology, counseling or case management needed to assist professional or licensed staff. Experience:
Must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal Service. To be creditable specialized experience is defined as experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to this type of position. Examples of specialized experience are providing individual and group therapy sessions, identifying behavior that requires intervention and treatment, resolving problems, documenting changes and assessments in a medical record, and working with the homeless population. OR Must have completed one full year of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position with courses in psychology, social work or other directly related subjects. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be 18 semester hours. OR Must have a qualifying combination of education and specialized experience to qualify at the GS-7 level. This can be determined by adding total qualifying experience as a percentage of the required experience and education as a percentage of the total required. The total percentage must equal 100 percent. Education must include course directly related to the work of the position such as psychology, social work or other directly related subjects. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The work is active and is performed in a clinical setting at well as in the community and serves a Veteran population with complex needs. The position requires emotional ability to deal effectively with multi-tasking, and high volumes of patient flow. Position requires reaching, bending, stretching, walking and carrying light supply loads.
