Position
Summary:
Assists with the daily functions and operations of the Reach Out and Read program at 22
sites. The ROR Assistant works closely with physicians, staff, university students and families to implement the program.
Coordinate training of all volunteers involved in program.
Serve as liaison between community, Hospital, and individuals using the program.
Identify various individuals and groups to read to patients in the hospital's 22
pediatric primary care offices. Track and record volunteer hours.
Identify new groups/events for book donation opportunities.
Sort and manage book donations.Maintain book inventory at Cedar Locust Building.
Visit hospital departments that have gently used books available and refill stock
Recruit employees, coordinate training (through Akron Reads) and schedule staff to tutor third grade students within the Akron Public School system. Attend monthly Steering Committee meetings. Plan and implement special promotional events as needed. Promote program via marketing materials.
Solicit media coverage for Akron Rubber Ducks, local sports teams and other ROR events as needed. Staff health fairs, book fairs and other special events (i.e. Children's Cheer Classic).
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Community Health Education, Library Science or related field. Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills required. Experience in community outreach preferred.
Working Conditions Essential position functions (EPF) required:
Works in a typical clean and comfortable office environment with a variety of standard office equipment. Travels as requested. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
